Perception & Simplicity

You can create complex-looking animations using very basic elements, motions and principles.

perception
Let's create this stairs-like animation

Goal

The goal of this exercise is to be able to see different ways of constructing the same animation.

Why?

Once you learn how easy it is to see variations, it will make it even easier to create your own ideas from scratch.

Follow-Along

Here I will have the steps much like one of our newer tutorials.

Challenges

Can you see any other ways of recreating this exact same animation using different techniques?

Single Set of Layers

Try recreating this animation using only 1 set of layers by deleting r5 r9.

Hint: You’ll need to use a step curve to jump.

Solution to challenge 1

Single Set without Step Curves

The solution for this challenge is technicalyl simpler than the previous one, however it will stretch your ability to use color to help simplify things.

Lines Without Translation

Try to recreate this animation using 5 lines, and without moving them.

Hint: You’ll need to use stroke animations.

Stretching Shapes

Going back to using rectangles, can you see how to stretch and move a shape (a bit like a single step of a caterpillar)?

Hint: Start with a small shape on the left, end with a small shape on the right.
